IndyCar has confirmed record viewership in 2023 on Comcast-owned US network NBC.
Confirmed:
- Two per cent increase in viewership compared to 2022
- Most watched season of IndyCar since 2011
- Third consecutive year of audience growth for the series
- Most streamed season on record, led by Peacock’s coverage
Context:
Half of the season’s 16 races averaged more than one million viewers, tying last year for the highest mark since 2008. NBC’s 13 races posted a total audience delivery of 1.47 million viewers, up four per cent from last year’s coverage on NBC.
Coming next:
The viewership increases come at a good time for IndyCar as it approaches the end of its current media rights deal with NBC, which is reportedly paying US$20 million a year. The series has hired Endeavor’s IMG Media division to consult on the sales process for the next cycle with a view to entering the market in Q4 this year.
