Formula E unveils Sabic as title sponsor of Berlin ePrix

Saudi chemical firm signed long-term deal with all-electric series last year.

Formula E has announced Aramco subsidiary Sabic as the title sponsor for the upcoming Berlin ePrix.

Contract:

  • The partnership aligns with Sabic’s sustainability commitments and demonstrates the role its material technology and solutions are playing in electric vehicles
  • Sponsorship supports the company's broader sustainability strategy by highlighting its ambitious progress towards innovative material development, pioneering recycling technology and its wider social initiatives

Context: Sabic signed a long-term partnership with Formula E last year, launching with the title sponsorship of the season-ending London ePrix. However, Sabic is a subsidiary of Saudi oil giant Aramco, the biggest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions since 1965. Julia Pallé, sustainability director of Formula E, spoke to The BlackBook at preseason testing and argued that Saudi Arabia “needs to be around the table” as they have “the financial power to support us” in the fight against climate change.

Comment: Matt Scammell, chief commercial officer at Formula E, said: “We are thrilled that Sabic is extending its partnership with Formula E to become title sponsor of the iconic double-header of races in Berlin. The 2023 Sabic Berlin ePrix will give fans in Europe their first chance to see the new Gen3 race car in competitive action.”

Coming next: With Sabic title sponsoring the double-header round in Berlin from 22nd to 23rd April, Formula E's next stop on the calendar comes at the São Paulo ePrix on 25th March.
