F1 extends tyre supply deal with Pirelli until 2027

Partnership also covers supply for Formula Two and Formula Three and includes option for additional year.

Formula One has extended its exclusive tyre supplier deal with Pirelli until 2027.

Confirmed:

  • Contract has the option of an additional year
  • Supply will also cover Formula Two and Formula Three

Context:

By the conclusion of this deal, Pirelli will have been the exclusive tyre supplier for Formula One for 18 years – if the optional year is activated. The Italian brand faced competition from Bridgestone for this new tyre tender, but Formula One has opted for continuity.

Comment:

Stefano Domenicali, president and chief executive of Formula One, said: “Since returning to the sport in 2011 Pirelli has been an invaluable partner, supporting Formula 1 through new generations of technology and technical regulations and delivering tyres to enable fantastic racing for our fans.

“The company’s commitment to quality, innovation and their deep knowledge of our sport will be vital in the coming years as we approach our new regulations in 2026 and the work Pirelli is focused on relating to sustainability, proven by the FSC certification, will ensure we continue to work together towards our shared Net Zero 2030 goal.”

Coming next:

Pirelli has endured an eventful tenure as the exclusive tyre supplier of Formula One. Racing in the Pirelli era has had a considerable focus on tyre management, with the construction of the tyres requiring drivers to maintain their tyres in a specific temperature window. Last weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix saw a special directive from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for a maximum number of laps on tyres due to significant concerns over the integrity of the sidewalls. As the company moves into its next extension, it will hope that its experience in the sport will begin to deliver a more consistent tyre.
