Formula One and pay-TV network Sky have revealed plans to co-produce a Grand Prix broadcast for children from this season’s race in Hungary.
Confirmed:
- Broadcast will feature a dedicated international feed, with bespoke graphics, sound effects, special features and 3D-augmented graphics
- Presenters of Sky Kids show FYI – Braydon and Scarlett, alongside go-karter Zac – will host F1 Juniors in the UK
- Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg and ex-Nascar driver Danica Patrick will also join the broadcast
- In Germany, Sky Deutschland is organising an open casting call for young reporting talents aged ten to 14 to join their Sky Next Generation programme
Context: While the Hungarian Grand Prix is the first Formula One race to feature a unique children's broadcast, English soccer's Premier League, as well as the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) in North America, have experimented with similar productions.
Comment: Ian Holmes, director of media rights and content creation at Formula One, stated: “We want to ensure that our fans of all ages can enjoy and fall in love with Formula One. Working with our long-standing partners at Sky on this project to target younger audiences is really exciting. This is a first of its kind in motorsport, and I am excited to see the broadcast come to life and to watch the next generation of presenting talent!”
Coming next: This collaboration will allow the young presenters to get the opportunity to test various broadcasting roles. This will include interviewing their drivers, co-hosting alongside Natalie Pinkham and the Sky Sports F1 team, as well as commentating live during the race.
