- Initiative to educate local restaurants on how to get involved in Grand Prix
- F1’s education programme to take place at Bunche Park STEM Centre
South Florida Motorsports (SFM), the organiser of the Miami Grand Prix, has revealed a series of initiatives around the Formula One event to support business development and youth education in the local community.
As part of the agreement, SFM will host a business summit for local hospitality operators in Miami Gardens, where Formula One’s second US-based race is set to make its long-awaited debut in 2022.
The summit will inform the businesses who attend about how to get involved during May’s Miami Grand Prix, with hospitality vendors given the opportunity to showcase their operations and network during the event.
In addition, SFM has also announced the launch of a local ‘F1 in Schools’ programme. Miami Gardens' Bunche Park STEM Centre will be used as a base for the initiative, which is designed to educate local students about developing the skills to work in Formula One.
Formula One created its F1 in Schools programme in 2000 to introduce students to design, engineering, project management, branding and marketing, with the project now spanning 54 countries globally.
"From the start, we believed the success of the Formula One Miami Grand Prix would be connected to the value we create for our community," said Tom Garfinkel, managing partner of the Miami Grand Prix.
"These intentional efforts reflect that belief, and we are proud to work with the City of Miami Gardens to provide STEM programming for area youth and support minority-owned businesses."
Rodney Harris, Miami Gardens mayor, added: "Not only is it exciting to welcome an international sporting event like Formula One to Miami Gardens, it is also rewarding to have partners who are committed to investing in our community and youth.
"In addition to the economic boost for local businesses, the educational opportunities for the students and kids in our parks’ programmes will be extremely valuable. These initiatives align with the city’s overall goal of creating meaningful, sustainable programmes for residents and businesses."
