Formula One will continue to air exclusively on ESPN across Latin America and the Caribbean until 2028.

Key details:

  • Rights include every practice and qualifying session, sprint and Grand Prix, as well as all support races
  • Fans will be able to follow F1 across ESPN’s linear and digital platforms, including Disney+, on ESPN Premium in Chile, and via the Fox Sports networks in Argentina

Context:

ESPN may have lost the rights to Formula One in the US to Apple, but this deal underlines that the sport retains a good working relationship with the broadcaster’s parent company Disney.

Formula One has seen strong growth across Latin America and in the Caribbean in recent years. There are over 150 million fans in the region, a five per cent increase on 2024, of which 45 per cent are female and 43 per cent are under 35.

The region is also strongly represented on-track through Brazil’s Gabriel Bortoleto, Mexican Sergio Pérez and Franco Colapinto of Argentina. In fact, the latter has seen a surge of interest in his home country, which now boasts 17.2 million fans, making Formula One Argentina’s most popular global sports league – surpassing both the National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA).

Comment:

“ESPN has been a trusted broadcast partner for many years, so we are excited to continue our collaboration, and take our sport to even more fans as we witness incredible growth across Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Ian Holmes, chief media rights and broadcasting officer of Formula One.

“This has been helped enormously by the dedication and passion of the ESPN team to bring our fans the latest F1 action through world class broadcasting. We look forward to working with them into 2026 as the next generation of regulations come into force, which will shake up the competition and create huge excitement and drama.”
