F1’s AlphaTauri and Fantom extend blockchain deal

Formula One team AlphaTauri have announced an extension to their partnership with blockchain platform Fantom for the 2022 season.

As part of the deal, AlphaTauri drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda will become brand ambassadors for Fantom.

In addition, Fantom will receive branding on AlphaTauri's AT03 car for the duration of the season.

AlphaTauri first inked a partnership with Fantom in 2021, as part of which Gasly released his own non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

"It is a great pleasure to be involved with a partner like Fantom and to cooperate with such a visionary person like Harry Yeh [Fantom managing director]", said Franz Tost, team principal of AlphaTauri.

"We live in a world where cryptocurrencies cannot be ignored and the impact of blockchain technology is everywhere, from finance to supply chain applications, as well as contract management.

"Motorsport is well known for relentlessly developing new technologies which improve the sport and have a real-world impact. I can see the same motivation behind the blockchain movement, and I believe that this technology has the potential to fundamentally change everyone’s life, including of course our industry in Formula One."
