Extreme E and ITV extend FTA UK rights deal

Extreme E

All-electric off-road SUV championship Extreme E has extended its free-to-air (FTA) broadcast partnership with ITV.

Confirmed:

  • Multi-year extension of exclusive broadcast partnership in UK
  • Extreme E to continue being shown across ITV and ITV4 linear channels
  • Racing will also be shown on ITVX, the broadcaster’s over-the-top (OTT) offering, both live and on demand

Context:

Extreme E and ITV signed a three-year broadcast partnership in 2021, an agreement that became exclusive in 2022. This follows the sport for purpose championship’s broadcast strategy, focusing on free broadcasting to provide a lower barrier to entry for prospective fans.

Comment:

Ali Russell, managing director at Extreme E, said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have extended our broadcast partnership with ITV. There is great passion for motorsport in the UK and I am thrilled that we will continue to work with ITV. This gives us the platform to showcase our pioneering, gender equal championship – a world-first for motorsport – to a wide, engaged audience, and also raise awareness of the climate crisis and the need for sustainable solutions to climate change.

“Both Extreme E and ITV have a shared drive and commitment on this, and so this extension is a really important one. We look forward to continuing our work with Niall [Sloane – ITV director of sport], who has been such a big supporter these past three years and we look forward to developing our partnership even further.”

Coming next:

There is one event remaining in the 2023 Extreme E season, with the season finale taking place in Antofagasta, Chile, from 2nd to 3rd December.
