ETRC cancels Hungary round

Hungaroring can no longer host series due to reconstruction work.

The European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) has cancelled its round in Hungary this year.

Confirmed:

  • Hungaroring withdraws from agreement due to reconstruction work
  • Event had been due to be held on 3rd and 4th June

Context: Last week, the Hungaroring confirmed that it was looking to renovate its facilities with a view to extending its contract with Formula One until at least 2032. The current contract expires in 2027 and the renovation works are expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2026 season.

Comment: A statement from series organiser the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) read: ‘Despite ETRA’s best efforts no solution could be found, and therefore the event at the Hungaroring, which was due to be held on 3/4 June 2023, will be cancelled.’

Coming next: The season gets underway in Misano, Italy on 20th and 21st May, before moving onto the Slovakia Ring on 10th and 11th June, now the second round of the championship following this decision from the Hungaroring.
