Alfa Romeo F1 team secure ‘AU$140m’ Stake title partnership

Swiss team signs up online casino brand to replace PKN Orlen.

The Alfa Romeo Formula One team have secured a three-year, AU$140 million title sponsorship deal with online casino Stake

Contract:

  • The contract, worth AU$140m according to the Sydney Morning Herald, is described by Alfa Romeo as 'record-breaking'
  • Three-year deal will remain active when Audi steps in to replace Alfa Romeo at the end of this season
  • Team will now be known as 'Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake'
  • Stake will operate as a co-title partner while Sauber's contract with Alfa Romeo is still active

Context: Online casino Stake will replace PKN Orlen, who operated as title sponsor of the Swiss team since 2020. The Polish oil refiner has since been named principal partner at AlphaTauri.

Comment: Alessandro Alunni Bravi, managing director and team representative of the Alfa Romeo Formula One team, said: “We welcome Stake as a new co-title partner for the team in what represents the start of a new era for us both. Formula One has seen a huge increase in interest over the last few years and the arrival of brands such as Stake are representative of the massive exposure our sport can offer.”

Consequence: This is not the online casino's first step into motorsport, as Stake has supported the junior careers of Pietro and Enzo Fittipaldi. The former is currently a reserve driver at the Haas Formula One team, so it interesting that the company has decided to join forces with a different team. It is also interesting that this has been reported as a three-year title sponsorship, as Alfa Romeo, who are operating without a traditional team principal this season, are severing ties with Sauber at the end of this season. Stake is clearly looking to a future associated with the incoming Audi brand.
