The all-electric Ace Championship has rebranded as Formula G for its launch in 2024.
Confirmed:
- Junior series to debut in late 2024 across four regions
- Formula G will be a support series to existing racing events
Context:
The series, co-founded by former Mahindra Formula E team principal Dilbagh Gill and ex-Formula One driver Nick Heidfeld, provides the unique concept of a dual-powered car. The car can be raced at reduced power by a junior driver and then full power by a professional driver. This enables costs to be reduced across the competition, as teams can run two races with the budget and crew for one car.
Comment:
Gill said: “I am proud that after receiving support at every level of the sport, Formula G, by launching as a support series in multiple regions, is the first global series to create affordability and accessibility, unique by region, that will enable Formula G to attract more diversity in team owners, drivers, mechanics and engineers, while creating significantly more career opportunities on and off the track.”
Coming next:
There is no confirmed start date for Formula G yet, nor is it clear which series it will be looking to support. It will feature independent championships in four regions, which will be announced in due course.
