Formula E generates a relatively small proportion of its overall revenues from media rights sales, compared to more established properties such as Formula One (for which more than a third of overall revenue comes from broadcasting). This is normal for a competition that has just reached the 10th edition this season, and that is still aiming to grow its audience. In fact, the lower broadcasting revenues are also partly a result of its strategy to be available free-to-air so to maximise exposure of its races; in 2024, 80% of its media rights revenues come from free-to-air broadcasters in its largest five markets.
