MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports has announced that French tyre manufacturer Michelin has renewed its title sponsorship of the motorcycling championship’s Australian round.
The company already serves as MotoGP’s official tyre supplier, and replaced Italian generator manufacturer Pramac as the title sponsor of the Australian Grand Prix in 2016.
This year’s edition of the event takes place between 26th and 28th October at Victoria’s Phillip Island Circuit.
“In their capacity as tyre supplier, Michelin are one of the foundations of MotoGP, so it’s fantastic news for both parties that the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will have Michelin as the title sponsor once more,” said Pau Serracanta, managing director of Dorna Sports.
“Phillip Island always produces some of the best racing of the season, and it is fitting that a partner such as Michelin – both tyre supplier to MotoGP and the newly-announced MotoE World Cup – will take top billing for the event.”
Matthew Ye, senior vice president of Business Line 2 Wheels Worldwide for Michelin, added: “Michelin is active in motorsport in order to take its technologies forward and provide its consumers with the very best products. A high number of Michelin hypersport tyre ranges benefit from the brand's winning technologies.
“Our association with MotoGP has helped us to build brand awareness in many key high-growth markets. Our continuing involvement with the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix as title sponsor provides us with a first class platform to address biking enthusiasts across the world.”
