Michelin has been unveiled as the first partner of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, Formula E’s new production-based all-electric support series which is set to debut in December this year.
The French manufacturer will become the official tire supplier for all of the championship’s 20 entrants, a role that it already serves for Formula E.
Michelin’s portfolio of tire supply partnerships also includes deals with MotoGP, the World Rally Championship (WRC) and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The company was also the first brand to partner with Formula E ahead of its inaugural season in 2014.
The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy will run alongside the fifth season of Formula E throughout 2018/19, and will feature cars based on Jaguar’s I-Pace performance SUV. The planned format for the ten-race series will consist of a practice and qualifying session followed by a 30-minute race.
James Barclay, Jaguar Racing’s team director, said: “Jaguar Racing is thrilled to have such an established motorsport partner like Michelin joining the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy and we're confident they will help us to deliver a successful and exciting series.
“Since the global announcement in September and the reveal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as the first team in November 2017 there has continued to be positive interest and we look forward to announcing more partners and teams over the following months.”
“We have been a partner of Formula E since its inception four seasons ago and are excited to extend our presence in electric motorsport into the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy," added Pascal Couasnon, Michelin Motorsport’s director. “The series is in its early stages and we look forward to working alongside the Jaguar Racing team in launching the world's first international championship for production-based electric cars.”
