Formula One motor racing team McLaren have announced a new multi-year partnership with Kimoa.
The clothing brand, which is owned by McLaren’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, will serve as the British team’s official surfwear partner from January 2018.
The agreement ensures that Kimoa’s branding will appear on McLaren’s race cars, driver overalls and helmets. The company’s logo will also be displayed on Alonso’s team kit and driver cap.
Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren Technology Group, said: “As our new surfwear partner, Kimoa will easily sit alongside other clothing brands that we may look to introduce as we continue to grow our partner portfolio.
“Today’s announcement will place the brand squarely on the international stage and really help to amplify Kimoa’s global presence over the coming years.”
Alonso added: “Kimoa is an exciting project that I started with a group of friends. We worked closely together as we developed the brand, and it really reflects our spirit and our style.
“I’m truly delighted about Kimoa’s new partnership with McLaren. Seeing the Kimoa logo on my Formula One car, overalls, helmet and cap next year will make me and my co-founders feel extremely proud.”
McLaren are ninth in the Formula One constructors’ championship going into the final race weekend in Abu Dhabi. The team’s season has been defined by persistent engine problems which have resulted in them agreeing a deal to be released from their contract with Honda in order to switch to Renault as their engine supplier from 2018.
