Gumtree South Africa has been announced as the title sponsor for the final round of the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX), scheduled to take place between 10th and 12th November in Cape Town.
Under the terms of the agreement, the season-closing supercar race at Killarney International Raceway will be officially named as the Gumtree World RX of South Africa.
The partnership will enable the online classifieds site to use the World Championship’s global platform for various advertising and promotional purposes. The eBay-owned company will also be entitled to on-site activation rights, track branding rights and content creation.
The event in Cape Town will represent the first time that the FIA World Rallycross Championship has staged a round in Africa.
“It is an honour to have Gumtree SA onboard and supporting the first ever rallycross event to be staged in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Paul Bellamy, World RX’s managing director for IMG. “As a key player in the auto trader sector, Gumtree SA is the perfect fit and we are confident that our global platform can help promote the brand to a wider audience who are both digitally-savvy and passionate about the automotive industry.”
"Gumtree is thrilled to participate in this landmark event,” added Johan Nel, director and general manager of Gumtree SA. “Our automotive category is our most popular by far, drawing close to a million and a half visitors every month. The motoring community has always been staunch supporters of our site and this event marks our commitment to them and to the industry at large.”
Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson currently leads the drivers’ standings in the 2017 World RX, and the next round is due to take place between 30th June and 2nd July at the Höljes Motorstadion in Sweden.
