Discovery-owned free-to-air channel joins BBC and YouTube as UK rights holder.

Quest will live broadcast four races from the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, after the Discovery-owned free-to-air TV channel secured a deal for a portion of the series’ live UK broadcast rights.

As part of the agreement, Quest has also claimed a full highlights package, which will see the channel show the key moments from every race over the course of the 2018/19 season.

The action will be broadcast on Quest’s linear channel, as well as on its online on-demand service and the QuestOD app.

The four races to be screened live on Quest will be announced at a future date.

Eurosport, which is also owned by Discovery Communications, acquired the media rights for Formula E across Europe in a three-year agreement, from 2017 to the end of the 2019/20 season.

Ali Russell, director of media and business development at Formula E, added: “We are delighted that Quest have become a major addition to our UK broadcast offering for Season 5, guaranteeing that the ABB FIA Formula E Championship will continue to be available on a free-to-air basis in a key market for us.”

Formula E has already secured a deal with the BBC, with the public service broadcaster showing live coverage of every race from December after picking up a digital rights package for the new season. The global electric street racing series will be featured live on the BBC Sport website, BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button starting with the opening event of the fifth season, which takes place in Saudi Arabia on 15th December.

The all-electric racing series also announced a partnership with YouTube in October that will see every ePrix streamed live on the social platform in the UK during the upcoming season, with coverage set to feature guest appearances from influencer presenters throughout the course of the campaign.
