Formula E has announced the official roll out of Virtually Live Ghost Racing, a first-of-its-kind mobile game which uses telemetry technology to allow fans to race against the all-electric racing series’ drivers in real time.
The game, which is available to play using both mobile and tablet devices, identically mirrors the same speed, positioning and movement of the drivers out on track using timing data, hyper-realistic scenery and a cutting-edge physics engine.
Equipped with entertainment company Virtually Live’s patented technology, the game recreates every Formula E circuit with live commentary covering events as they happen both on the real and virtual racetrack.
As well as having the ability to sit in a virtual driving seat, users will have the opportunity to build their own collection of personalised cars with special tuning and set-up options.
Fans can also re-play major moments from past races, compete in custom scenarios and invite friends online to challenge their time.
In addition, fans can use the game to watch live races unfold from the cockpit of a selected driver as part of a second-screen viewing offering.
“Before we launched the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, I promised that one day our fans will be able to race against their favourite drivers in real time, making them a part of the racing more than ever before and now this dream is a reality,” said Formula E founder and chief executive Alejandro Agag.
Formula E and Virtually Live first announced their intention to provide fans with an immersive ghost racing experience last year.
“It was our vision to create an immersive racing experience far beyond what existing racing games offer,” added Virtually Live chief executive Markus Tellenbach. “Together with our partner - Formula E - we accomplished a quantum leap in gaming full of innovation, including the world’s first in-game live race commentary laying the foundation for Virtually Live’s success in the fast-growing esports industry.”
