Fitzgerald Glider Kits extends with Team Penske

Fitzgerald Glider Kits has announced an expansion of its partnership with Team Penske to serve as a primary sponsor of the number 22 Ford Mustang in 16 races of next season’s Nascar Xfinity Series.

The kit assembler will sponsor the stock car championship team for the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway in February, the season-ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and both series races at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennesee.

In addition, Fitzgerald Glider Kits will be an associate sponsor in all races in which it is not the primary sponsor.

The firm is also to serve as the primary sponsor of Ryan Blaney’s number 12 Ford Fusion in the Nascar Cup Series race in Bristol in August 2018, and will continue as an associate sponsor in premier open wheel race the Verizon IndyCar Series, with a presence on the number one Chevrolet driven by Josef Newgarden throughout next season.

The news sees Fitzgerald replace Discount Tire as the primary sponsor of the number 22 for 2018. Team Penske announced in November that the tyre manufacturer would serve as a primary sponsor on Brad Keselowski’s number two in the Nascar Cup Series for ten races in 2018.

The financial terms of the deal were not released but based on similar agreements in Nascar, Fitzgerald’s commitment is likely to be worth a sum of around US$5 million.

The company first partnered with Team Penske in 2016, and extended its agreement in February 2017 to cover the Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series (MENCS) and the Nascar Camping World Truck Series.

“Team Penske continues to grow its relationship with Fitzgerald Glider Kits and we welcome the company’s increased role as a sponsor with the number 22 Ford Mustang team in 2018,” said Team Penske’s owner, Roger Penske.

“We work closely with Fitzgerald in our trucking business and the company has certainly made the most of its partnership with our race teams across different platforms since it joined Team Penske in 2016. We look to continue to build the Fitzgerald Glider Kits brand as we move to the next level next season.”

“Working with Roger and Team Penske has been a real privilege over the past few years,” added Tommy Fitzgerald Senior, founder of Fitzgerald Glider Kits.  “I truly appreciate the all the new friendships we’ve built and the time that the team took to get to know our company and to understand the goals of our brand.

“Becoming a primary sponsor with Team Penske was a natural fit for the Fitzgerald Companies. The opportunity to display our colours on the hauler and the race car will give us a great tie into the transportation side of racing, which means maximum exposure in our industry.

“Seeing our company logo in the winner’s circle provides a feeling of pride unlike anything we have done as a family and as a company. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Team Penske by growing our commitment to the Nascar Xfinity Series programme.”
