Formula One has teamed up with social media giant Facebook to release a four-part documentary series chronicling the inaugural F1 Esports Series Pro Draft that took place earlier this year.
The inside look at the global motorsport series’ esports competition will be released on Facebook and selected broadcast channels, with the first episode due to air on 25th July.
The Pro Draft at the Gfinity Arena in West London saw a total of 16 gamers selected in a pool of 40 drivers to represent nine Formula One outfits, with all of the series’ teams apart from Ferrari set to participate in the tournament.
The documentary will showcase the days leading up to the selection process, featuring the 40 gamers being tested by sim racing challenges, assessments and interviews.
"It has been quite the journey for these drivers to emerge as the world's best on our official Formula One game to partake in our inaugural F1 Esports Pro Draft" said Julian Tan, head of growth and esports at Formula One. "This four-part episodic series will tell the story of these drivers, who were flown from across the globe into the historic Silverstone circuit to take part in this.”
"There they were assessed on all aspects from sim racing and fitness to media readiness and go-karting, eventually earning a chance to be picked by an official Formula One team. The episodic series will also shed light into the Formula One teams, providing a behind-the-scenes look into their objectives and plans in esports and what they are looking for in their future esports drivers.
"No doubt, we will have some interesting content in these episodes as we build up the excitement leading into our first ever F1 Esports Pro Series Championship later in the season."
