The German Touring Car Masters (DTM) has announced that its 2018 calendar will include a return to Brands Hatch in the UK and an additional race at Misano in Italy.
The German touring car series’ Russian race at Moscow Raceway has been taken off the schedule.
DTM had earlier staged events at Brands Hatch from 2006 to 2013, but will take on the longer Grand Prix circuit for the first time at the Kent location, having previously run on the 1.97km track. The race is set to return on 11th and 12th August.
Misano’s World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will be making its debut in the series on 24th to 26th August, with the news marking the event’s first return to Italy since a race was held at the Adria International Raceway in 2010.
The new ten-race DTM calendar will start and finish at Hockenheim in Germany, with German circuits Lausitzring, Norisring and Nürburgring, and overseas races at the Hungaroring in Hungary, Zandvoort in the Netherlands and Spielberg in Austria, remaining constant on the series’ schedule.
“Five events in Germany, five abroad - DTM is becoming somewhat more international without neglecting its German roots,” said Gerhard Berger, chief executive of DTM’s rights holder and promoter ITR.
“With England and Italy, two important markets of the premium-car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes make their comeback on the DTM calendar. Furthermore, I’m delighted that DTM keeps on racing at the Lausitzring – even after the circuit was sold.”
The 2018 DTM series will launch on 4th May and conclude on 14th October.
