DAZN is close to acquiring Spanish media rights to the World Rally Championship (WRC) and the IndyCar series, according to a report by Spanish newspaper El Español.

The move would see the over-the-top (OTT) subscription service add to its domestic motorsport package in Spain, which already includes rights to MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship (WSB) from 2019.

The streaming platform entered the Spanish market in November when it acquired rights to the Premier League, English soccer’s top flight, for three years from the beginning of next season.

The company, which already holds WRC rights in Italy, also carries rights in Spain to EuroLeague Basketball until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The new IndyCar season will see the return of two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso to its landmark event, the Indy 500, with McLaren Racing’s Spanish driver looking to complete the Triple Crown of Motorsport.

According the El Español report, DAZN is finalising negotiations with the rights owners and will announce its full portfolio next month to coincide with race testing ahead of the start of the 2019 MotoGP season.

DAZN also has a motorsports presence in Japan where it holds rights to Formula One, Formula Two, the GP3 Series, and the Supercars Championship. In addition, it carries BeIN Sports coverage of the MotoGP, WSB, and MotoAmerica championships in Canada.
