Brazil-based niobium supplier puts name to events in Punta del Este and Rome.

CBMM to title sponsor two Formula E races

Brazilian brand CBMM has agreed a deal with Formula E to become the title sponsor of the all-electric racing series’ race in Punta del Este, Uruguay and the inaugural Rome ePrix.

The deal sees the world’s leading niobium supplier increase its involvement with Formula E after sponsoring the championship’s events in Mexico City, Paris and New York last year.

Punta del Este is returning to Formula E’s calendar for the first time since 2015 in place of the Brazilian city of São Paulo, which withdrew from the schedule late last year. The Italian capital of Rome, meanwhile, is one of two new venues on the series’ calendar alongside Santiago in Chile, which hosted its first ePrix last weekend.

Eduardo Ribeiro, chief executive of CBMM Niobium, said: “The championship has been a successful platform for CBMM to improve awareness of Niobium technology and enable knowledge sharing about new applications to address complex challenges.

“Being title sponsor is an exciting opportunity for us to show the huge variety of niobium materials technologies and we look forward to communicating our plans for the Punta del Este and Rome ePrix.”

Alejandro Agag, founder and chief executive of Formula E, added: “The importance of implementing technologies such as Niobium is crucial to the continual development in the automotive sector and the push for electrification, especially as the demand for producing battery and electric motor components accelerates further.”

The Punta del Este ePrix takes place on 17th March, and will be followed by the Rome ePrix on 14th April.
